PHOTO-COLLECTION OF MILOS JURISIC
Unlike photographs in archives and museum collections, photographs that will become part of private photo collections exist before and nowhere. Often scattered on the streets of informal street auctions are waiting for their new owners and eternal accommodation within a carefully organized system. As Valter Benjamin wrote, the basics of each private collection are made by some personal, mostly family story, just like in the case of Milos Jurisic’s collection.
…
Upgrading family photographic heritage, Jurisic increased his collection by saving valuable photographic specimens from markets, auctions and often forgotten places. Although it has not been shown in the format of the solo exhibition so far, the photo collection of Miloš Jurisic is actually very well known to us. As a compulsory part of many historical and cultural exhibitions and significant photographic publications, in 2018, this photo collection has been recorded for almost 30 years since its first appearance at the exhibition dedicated to the history of photography in Serbia, Dr. Milanka Todic from 1989. Since then, Miloš Jurišić has worked with many museums, curators and authors, and through their exhibitions and book collections he has been presented in Serbia, America, Japan, Germany, Austria, Croatia. The significance of these and similar collections for reviewing the history of photography in Serbia as well as for the development of a photographic culture in general is irreplaceable.
