Bikini Art Residency NYE 31.12.2017. Drugstore

To expiate the passing of time, Bikini – Art Residency, in collaboration with Drugstore Beograd and Art Bites, is glad to celebrate with you the first day of 2018. The Bikini family is moving to Belgrade for the occasion. Our visual artist Marine Julié will produce a site specific work in the electronic music cathedral: the Drugstore, an old slaughterhouse taken over by contemporary art and music. Bikini’s resident Dj and music producer Vesy(https://soundcloud.com/vesymusic) will guide us through the experience. On the dark ceiling of the meat smoking chambers Marine will draw a fresco, a constellation of her characters.

Marine’s practice is rooted in her perception of ancient cults and
collective iconography. She has long been fascinated with history of war and what survives us; her work involves a language of para-human, androgynous figures, hybrid creatures between human and animal in the act of battle and sex. Marine plays with these references not much as a mean to give an interpretation of history, but to populate a dreamlike world, creating site-specific works in the hidden and wild, in the abandoned and in the uncanny. Images, references and the narration of her drawings become a way to reflect upon our contemporaneity. She investigates archetypical figures that seems to be buried under modern social constructions.
