Ernesto Sabato (June 24, 1911, Rojas – April 30, 2011, Santos Lugares, Buenos Aires), an Argentine writer who studied mathematics, physics and philosophy at Universidad de La Plata. In high school and student days, he is active in anarchist, and later in communist movements. He dedicates himself to writing, leaving a successful scientific career and moving to a mountain ranch in 1945. He wrote three novels and a set of essays. Combining the experiences of existentialist poetics (Tunnel, 1948) with elements of magical realism (On Heroes and Grave, 1961), and the narrative strategies of the postmodern (Abadon, an angel of destruction, 1974), created an unparalleled literary kaleidoscope. Politically engaged, he criticized military dictatorship in Argentina and was president of the National Committee on Missing Persons during the rule of the military junta in Argentina. The twentieth century was waiting in the ambush as the night attacker was waiting for some couple of snobbish lover. He waited with his mechanized slaughterhouses, the mass murders of the Jews, the collapse of the parliamentary system, the end of economic liberalism, despair and fear.
