Lonely boy Sosuke lives with his mother by the seashore. One day he caught an unusual fish and gave her the name Ponjo. This fisherman is actually the daughter of a ruler of the sea, named Brunhild, who understands the human language and speaks fluently. Sosuke understands that she has to protect Ponjo from other kindergarten children and hide her skillfully. On land, Ponjo acquires the ability to become a real girl, but it provokes her father’s anger, who sends giant tsunamis, to return his daughter home.
