We invite you to open an exhibition of paintings “Corolla” Kristina Palanjuk on Thursday, February 7, at 7 pm, at the SULUV Gallery. The exhibition will be open until February 16, 2019.

“Corolla” (noun) Origin: 1670. God, lat. Venčić; a flower of flowers; crown.Deminutiv of corona (wreath).
In the botanical garden it has been used since 1753 to mark the most beautiful and the most delicate part of the plant – a ring of petals that surrounds and protects the reproductive organs of the plant. I try to evoke memories, events, people, childhood through a series of works called Corolla. These works are character letters / stories, told at moments of tea drinking, moments of relaxation, loneliness, own researches and calculations. Through organic forms, I “print” memories, feelings and dreams in large and small formats with subtle drawings and gentle, pastel tones, so that I would not forget them. The plants shown are mostly medicines for diseases that are related to dear people. Thus, these works could be called medicinal, and plants symbolize the lives of people whose diseases are healing. I want to visualize them invisibly, what we register only at the level of feeling and intuition. Something present, but which constantly escapes us and does not exist in the physical world. Something that is part of the subconscious. The plants have an ambivalent meaning: they are the symbols of life, youth, health, but on the other hand, they are the main decoration in cemeteries and symbols of regret. Here the plants are abraded, removed from their context. Small floating souls without root, but still fresh. The question arises as to whether they (as well as what they represent) are at the beginning of decay and disappearance, or are they embedded in eternity? This is a cycle that unites the wreaths we nurture as children and put them in the hair and wreaths we place on the graves of our loved ones one word: Corolla.
