It is very fitting that the first SUTRA event presents Batu to the Belgrade audience, having in mind his continuous multidisciplinary work on honoring the legacy of future oriented dance music, but more importantly, learning from these traditions that the only way is forward into the unknown, that there lies authentic creativity and vitality of the scene/s. We will not cry over the end of modernism, we will learn from it.
Spearheaded by the institutions of Bristol’s contemporary dance music – Peverelist, Pinch, Appleblim, Hodge – Batu went even further into exploration of a fresh sound that showed his techno and hardcore continuum roots but went somewhere new. He allowed himself to spread out in a true pioneer fashion forming Timedance, a seminal label and rave night in which his roles were multiplying: DJ, producer, label boss and promoter – giving the dancers a complete vision they can throw themselves into. Exquisite sound design and forward oriented ethos, as well as his innovative approach to curating music assured the place Batu holds on the global scene at the moment.
